In 2014 we brought in for our first Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, iconic Mexican American writer, Victor Villasenor to Topeka. Victor was here for two days, September 15 and 16. He gave a lecture on his beloved book Rain of Gold, at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library on September 15 at 6pm. At 6pm on September 16, Victor held a workshop on writing family history. Rain of Gold and the follow up book, Thirteen Senses were on sale both evenings by Barnes and Noble. Also students from Highland Park and Topeka High schools read Rain of Gold for the first time during Hispanic Heritage Month 2014.
