The Tonantzin Society plans major events that build awareness on Chican@/Indigenous/Xicanx/Latinx culture AND works in a myriad in ways to be a vested partner in the Topeka community. On any given day, you may see one or more of our members actively creating and nurturing partnerships and engaging in cultural education!

Planning meetings for Kansas Culturally Relevant Pedagogy Summer Intensive Seminar 2019.
Met with Wisconsin based organization, Wisconsin Mujer’s CEO, Araceli Lopez Esparza on possible partnership.
Conference call with Kansas Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights partners.
Attended Kansas Appleseed ‘Eastern Kansas Hunger Action Summit.’ TS was also a sponsor of this event.

Met with KSDE Education specialist on Kansas CRP Seminar 2019.
Initial planning for ‘Somos Agua’ a water justice focused silk mural 2020 project in Kansas.
Facetime meetings with long distance Texas interns. Supervised intern Felicia Cisneros as she planned her event for April 2019 at Mulvane Art Museum.
Met with MAM Kid’s Art Lab to plan Earth Day Family Events.
Co-sponsor and judging organization for Washburn University’s first WIFI Film Festival taking place in April 2019.

Met with TS consulting artist and Lawrence Art Center for planning of Artemio Rodriguez print exhibit taking place Sept-Oct 2019.
Met with Beach Museum, along with TS art consultant Blanca Herrada, to take prints of Artemio Rodriguez to house at LAC until fall event.
Hosted Denver founder of Sisters of Color United for Education, Belinda Garcia to Topeka.
Garcia will be lead artist, healer, teacher in ‘Somos Agua’ a water justice focused silk mural 2020 project in Kansas.
Met with Mulvane Art Museum and Belinda Garcia on sponsorship of ‘Somos Agua’ 2020 project.
Gave presentation on ‘Somos Agua’ 2020 project to Haskell Indian Nations University art class.
